NEW Instagram Feature You Should Be Using!

My first share was one that I couldn't NOT share from my friend Morgan of Pet StayCations. She is a social media maven & THE best dog petter you can find! #DeathToRetractables

Shout out to Morgan from Pet StayCations for allowing me to use her post!

Instagram has added yet another new feature, and it is a serious level up.

While I am still a tiny bit bitter that I don't have the following to get the "SWIPE UP" feature, and I am not so patiently waiting to get it, I am pretty stoked about this new feature.

If you don't already use Instagram stories, you gotta start! It has some serious advantages:

  • real time marketing
  • keeps you current
  • ups your engagement
  • adds personality to your brand
  • increases your visibility in the complex & slightly stupid world of algorithms

You are able to save your stories into your highlights reel or let them fade away into the abyss after 24 hours (just make sure you have the auto archive setting turned on so you, too, don't lose them forever!) Setting up your highlight reel can help your new followers take a peek into what it's like to watch you on the daily and will get them excited to see your next post.

Another plus (there are plenty,) is that you can see WHO is seeing your posts. Your stories give you a cool insight into everyone that has watched your story (even better when you put a poll or question and they reply!) It one-ups your regular posts because they don't have to like or interact to count towards your insights and you can see if what you are sharing is engaging to your following.

Now, onto the real reason for this post:

You can now share other page's posts to your story.

Instagram has always been all about original content and has somewhat lacked in the sharing department, which can be both cool and irritating. I mean, I want to share that meme to my miserable preggo friend about day drinking because for once it isn't me being preggo! IG has gotten better for sharing through the direct messaging feature but still you would have to download and repost or use third party apps to make it public on your page. This new feature allows you to share other page's posts to your story for all of your followers to see.

Here's HOW:

You can see here, Morgan used a third party app to share a post from her professional page to her personal page. This helps connect the two pages and the tags help her rankings in the algorithm. Snaps for Morgan!

Find the post you want to use & click the paper airplane:

Next, click "Add Post To Your Story"

If you want to share it to someone directly & privately, you can search for them and press the blue "Send" next to their name.

    But seriously, #DeathToRetractables!

And finally, add your own flare for your story.

Put commentary, GIFs, drawings, emojis, anything to share your thoughts on the matter. You want to make sure you add something from you so followers can see YOUR thoughts on the matter. If they just see the original post then why would they look at your feed when they can see it somewhere else?

So, how can you use this feature to up your business reach?

    • Showcase your clients using your product or service by sharing their posts to your story for all of your followers to see & get inspired
    • Contests! Have your followers share a post of yours to their story as an entry into a giveaway or freebie from you
    • Share info & news from leaders in your field
    • Network with other ambassa-babes you are working with. (Like I did here- Morgan at Pet Staycations is a design client of mine and I love the info she shares!)
    • Super promote your stuff. Many times, I see stories from pages that don't pop up in my feed. I follow their story to their page, like what I see, and BAM they show up in my feed and we can better interact!

How do you plan to use this new feature? Do it and tag @justjossandco so I can see!
